Follow me on Twitter

Okay, it’s been a while since I posted anything here, and I’m obviously not capable of keeping a blog (not that I ever really thought I would be), but something I think I might be able to do once in a while is send a quick tweet about this or that.

So, I’ve added a little Twitter feed to the sidebar that’ll show anything recent, and if you’re on Twitter, you can follow along: http://twitter.com/briandesmond

History of the Amen Break

This video is kinda old, but I stumbled upon it again recently and thought it would be worth sharing.

The Amen Break and I have a bit of a relationship. I somehow find a way to squeeze a slice of it into just about everything I do, and I think this video is an essential part of anyone’s musical education. Watch.

Big Ideas: Don’t get any

Watch:

There are tons of Nude remixes all over the place lately thanks to Radiohead selling their ’stems’ on iTunes. Most of ‘em are kinda meh, but this one is totally cool. It’s a very creative video showcasing the whole idea behind the the remix.

Oh and btw, that HP ScanJet really is outputting sound. HP will even tell you how to do it yourself if you’re interested. Pretty neato.

I caught my first bass! + new job!

Ok, so I never really got into fishing. As a kid I went a few times but always failed to catch anything, and then just never really tried again, until my buddy Joe started dragging me out on our lunch breaks at work.

So, after weeks of going out and basically just consistently losing tons of spinner bait, hooks and worms, I finally started catching fish last week. I caught a pickerel last Friday, then I caught another 2 this week on Monday, and then today, I finally caught a largemouth bass – and it’s a pretty decent size one too:

3+ lbs !

I’m pretty much going out with a bang here, since this is also the last day I’ll be fishing at this pond, as I won’t be able to get out for lunch for the rest of the week and this is my last week at my current job – I’m moving on to bigger and better things!

Cakewalk!

That’s right; the exciting news is I have just been hired to work for Cakewalk! I will be their Instruments Product Manager, so I will be supervising developement of new products, and updates to existing ones. It’s going to be pretty much the coolest job ever. I start after Memorial Day weekend, so wish me luck! :)

Korg DS-10 Synth

I just learned AQ Interactive & KORG are working on a new synth called the DS-10 that runs on the Nintendo DS! The synth is based on the classic KORG MS-10.

KORG DS-10

I’m pretty excited about this, it’ll be fun to have a pocket MS-10 synth to break out on lunch breaks, bring with me on vacation, or whenever else. From the looks of it, the DS-10 will be a little ReBirthesque package deal with 2 x MS-10’s and a simple drum machine to program your block rockin’ beats on.

Another thing worth noting – there’s a mention of Procyon Studio at the bottom of the page, and that’s the name of Yasunori Mitsuda’s studio. For anyone not familiar with him, he’s a excellent game music composer, responsible for all the music from Xenogears and the Chrono series., which I’m a fan of. I wonder what the connection is – maybe he provided the sound demo on the DS-10 website, or will be creating something special with this little beatbox.
